Other meetings

Student meetings

Seven conferences were organized between 1971–1984 with the aim of introducing medical students to research, and in particular of giving them some insight into the relevance of research to medical practice. More recently, we established a series of seminars whereby undergraduates and postgraduates could experience science communication in action. The series is currently in abeyance for budgetary reasons.

Working party & study groups

A series of study groups was established to examine aspects of the relationship between the scientific and medical communities and the public covering topics relating to the relevance and significance of research and the accountability and responsibility of scientists and physicians. The aim of these study groups was to meet regularly over a period of time to explore such problems, to collect data as necessary, and ultimately to summarize their findings in a report or series of recommendations. Seven such groups were set up and these led to a variety of publications.
